Center Launches National Mission on Natural Farming
The Union Cabinet has recently approved the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF), which will receive support from both central and state governments. The total budget allocated is ₹2,481 crore, and the central government will contribute ₹1,584 crore, while state governments will provide ₹897 crore. This funding will be available until 2025-26.
Objectives of the Mission
The NMNF aims to enhance farmers’ welfare, which promotes healthier and sustainable farming practices. The mission encourages the use of natural farming methods. These methods avoid chemicals and rely on traditional farming knowledge.
Key Practices Promoted
Farmers will be encouraged to use local livestock. The mission supports the cultivation of diverse crops. It promotes techniques that are suitable for specific regions. These practices are designed to align with ecological principles.
The NMNF aims to reduce farming costs. It seeks to cut down on the need for purchased inputs. This will help farmers save money while improving profitability.
Environmental Impact
The mission focuses on improving soil health, which encourages biodiversity within farming systems. Diverse cropping systems are promoted to enhance resilience. Natural farming aims to provide safe and nutritious food for consumers.
The initiative seeks to revive traditional farming practices, which aims to make these methods adaptable to climate challenges. This will benefit farmers and their families in the long term.
Support for Farmers
The NMNF is designed to support farmers in their transition. It provides guidance on sustainable farming techniques. The mission aligns with the government’s broader goals for agriculture.
